You won't know what's playing until the lights go down.
Nocturne Film Society is a members-only cinema club. On select last Sundays throughout the year, Society members gather at the Murray Theater for exclusive mystery screenings. Showcasing the many subgenres of horror, such as apocalyptic, backwoods, body, cannibal, cosmic, experimental, folk, found footage, gore, gothic, holiday, home invasion, horror comedy, killer objects, monsters, psychological thriller, revenge, science fiction, slasher, social, supernatural, survival, and tech, every film is carefully curated and kept under wraps until showtime.
Each gathering is a chance to connect with fellow film lovers through shared discovery, lively discussion, and a community built around the darker side of cinema. Members help shape what comes next through film suggestions, feedback and ongoing participation.

Nocturne Film Society is teaming up with Filmulate and ZepFEST to create more opportunities for Utah filmmakers to bring their work to the big screen. Through these partnerships, local filmmakers can submit their short films for festival consideration and to screen before our mystery feature films at the Murray Theater.
Filmulate champions independent filmmaking through genre-focused festivals and creative challenges. With a love for horror, sci-fi, and imaginative storytelling, Filmulate inspires filmmakers to push creative boundaries and bring original stories to life.
ZepFEST, presented by the Zepstone Arts Foundation, is a Murray-based nonprofit arts organization known as “The People’s Festival.” Celebrating film, music, fashion, and visual arts, ZepFEST connects artists with opportunities to share their work and reach new audiences.
Through our partnerships, Utah filmmakers can submit their short films for consideration to screen before Nocturne Film Society’s mystery features at the Murray Theater.
Why mystery
The movies that surprise us are often the ones that follow you home.
Streaming services give us endless choices, but sometimes the best films are the ones we never would have chosen ourselves. There’s always another movie to watch, another recommendation to follow, another trailer telling us what to expect.
Our mystery format brings back the anticipation of discovering something together. It sparks conversation, brings people into the same room, and turns every screening into an event where the reveal is part of the fun.
Not every film will be your favorite. Every film is chosen with this community in mind, giving overlooked favorites, hidden gems, and films worth revisiting a chance to be experienced together on the big screen.
Can I share my membership with friends or family?
Memberships may be purchased for yourself or given as a gift. Each membership is valid for one admission scan per event date — whether the evening is a single screening or a double feature, one scan admits one member. Every attendee needs their own membership, and a membership cannot be used by more than one person on the same date.
What kinds of films does Nocturne screen?
Our programming is rooted in horror and spans its many subgenres, from psychological and supernatural horror to slashers, monsters, folk, body horror, horror comedy, sci-fi, dark fantasy, and more. Horror isn’t one thing. Our selections range from beloved classics and overlooked gems to influential films that have shaped the genre landscape.
Can members suggest films?
Absolutely. Nocturne is built around a community of passionate movie lovers. Members are encouraged to submit recommendations, share feedback, and help influence future programming.
Are concessions available?
Yes. The theater concession stand is open during screenings, and members get fountain drinks and popcorn for FREE! This is included with your Nocturne Membership.
Do you play local shorts before the main mystery movies?
Yes! We support our local Utah film makers and play one before each main feature.
Do memberships renew automatically?
No. Memberships never renew automatically. Once all of your scans have been redeemed, you may purchase a new membership and continue with the Society.
Why are two showtimes listed for the same date?
Every Nocturne event features a mystery double feature, with both films included in a single membership. Join us for the first film, stay for both, or arrive in time for the second.
No matter how many films you watch, only one membership scan is redeemed per event date, at no additional cost.
What if I don't like the movie?
Embracing the unknown is part of the experience. Not every film will be everyone's favorite, but every selection is curated with this community in mind. The goal isn't just to watch movies — it's to explore great cinema together and encounter films you might never have chosen yourself.
Why do some links point to squeeprints.com?
Nocturne Film Society and Squee Prints are sister businesses run by the same team. We use the Squee Prints platform for memberships, merchandise and online transactions, so being redirected there during checkout is completely normal.
Work with Nocturne to introduce your business, organization, or creative work to our audience. Collaborators can share their work through the Nocturne pre-show, with opportunities for cross-promotion and partnership.
The pre-show runs approximately 30 minutes before single-feature events, with additional pre-show time before the second screening during double features.
